Our family eats a lot of whole food plant-based meals that consist of rice and beans. That makes it extra important to have a quick and easy recipe to make our black beans.

A lot of times people get discouraged from making their own beans due to the belief that they have to soak them overnight and attend to them on the stovetop for hours. But that does not have to be the case anymore.

With this easy InstantPot or electric pressure cooker recipe, you can go from dry beans to perfectly cooked black beans in just 30 minutes!

Description

With this easy InstantPot or electric pressure cooker recipe, you can go from dry beans to perfectly cooked black beans in just 30 minutes!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup black beans (dry)
  • 3 cups water (or vegetable broth)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Mix all of the ingredients together in your InstantPot or electric pressure cooker.
  2. Close the lid and turn the valve to the “seal” orientation.
  3. Set the pressure cooker to cook for 30 minutes on teh manual or “pressure cook” setting.
  4. Once the time is up, allow the pressure cooker to naturally release before opening the lid.

Notes

This is a base recipe to make black beans that will be able to be included in almost any recipe. If you have a specific recipe in mind, you can always increase or add in different seasonings before pressure cooking the beans. 

Allow the beans to cool on the countertop before transfer to the refrigerator, where they can be stored for up to 5 days.
