On days where I know I will be going out and doing some high energy activities I make sure to fuel up with some delicious whole plant foods. Recently I have had a lot of beets ready to harvest on the farm and I was looking at different ways that I could prepare them, and that is when I came up with my superman smoothie.

This is a quick and nutritious way to get that extra energy and utilize the amazing vasodilating property of beets. I can remember back to my time playing football at Nebraska when we would use a beetroot powder before working out to increase performance. I am using those same properties of the beets now before I go on a hike or bike ride.

Purple Beet Smoothie


Description

Making your own Purple Beet Smoothie is a great way to get in your nitric oxide boosting beets before a run, bike ride, or hike.

Ingredients

6 ounces beets and stems

2 frozen bananas

2 cups plant-based milk

2 tbs cacao or cocoa powder


Instructions

  1. Blend all of the ingredients together for 1 to 2 minutes or everything has been blended into a creamy smoothie consistency.
